Afghans’ Hopes and Grievances: An Individual/Community Level Analysis

This paper examines the nature of fragility by looking at sources of grievances and hopes in Afghanistan at group/individual level. Through this endeavour, it attempts to question traditional assumptions that conflict in Afghanistan has a purely economic nature. The paper provides a comprehensive picture that encompasses an interplay of ideological, political as well as economic factors. These arenas of contestation include power struggles, governance, security, justice, resource management, corruption as well as service delivery.
